Who Is The Government?

Far too long, we have lived in a mirage as a people with an illusion that the government is one person in a position that will bring transformation – alpha and omega of all solutions plaguing our society. Government to anyone is elected officials in leadership positions charged with managing scarce resource, administering justice, etcetera. Thus far, we have failed to realize that these people come from within us, and our justification for theirs and our failures as citizens has allowed us to wallow in mediocrity as a nation. As long as there is justification, there will be no motivation to fix what is wrong.

You and I are the government, and we can no longer allow the justification of blame to keep us in the deep mess we are in because there will be no motivation for correction and solutions to our complex problems will remain illusionary. There is no way we can have better leaders when the government comes from among the citizens – we must have better citizens to produce better leaders. It is time we hold the mirror for ourselves and wake up to our responsibilities as citizens, for we are the government, and the government is us.
