I have been watching inspirational videos and reading stories of people who if they had allowed fear to get a hold of them, I won’t have been able to watch or read about them today. No one knows 100% which of the things we do that will be a breakthrough for us. I do not know with absolute certainty if the videos and articles I am writing weekly will be the breakthrough that amplifies my purpose in life but one thing I am sure of is that I will take each day and make the best of it as I try to bring smiles to your face. While fear can serve a good purpose to protect you from danger, you must be true to yourself to ensure that your fear is not one that stops you from reaching for your full potential.
You do not want to journey down the path life has for you and look back and regret the chances you never took, the email you never sent, the call you never made, the business you never started, the woman/man you never asked out and so many other things you should have done but never did because you allowed fear stop you. In an interview with Seth Godin, Peace –the host – asked him a question about what has been his biggest failure story and what he said caught my attention. HE said his biggest failure is the things he never had the guts to try. He is today a successful entrepreneur and teacher. Even though he is grateful for the ventures he tried out that ultimately failed, there are chances he can’t get back again because he did not have the guts to try out something’s, open some doors or help some people.
It does not matter how good-intentioned you are if you let fear stop you from opening doors that you should have opened. Of cause when I say open doors, I am mindful to pray for God’s leading with the doors I should be opening or the things I should try out.
Imagine that our founding fathers for fear never dared to ask for freedom from colonization, we would still be slaves today (It is sad however that we are still holding ourselves as slaves in the 21st century). Imagine the computer was never invented for fear or the aeroplanes we use to fly, imagine Thomas Edison stopped trying because he failed severally. It is ok to doubt yourself sometimes but it is not ok to remain in doubt. You will feel like giving up sometimes not because you are not capable of implementing the task or for a lack of sound strategy but the mere fact that the results are not yet showing keep at it and don’t let fear stop you. The feeling from your story with fears and guts to try and fail is different from the feeling of not trying at all because you were scared of failing. Don’t live 10 years down the road only to say “only if I had the guts to…” Now is another opportunity to knock on that door, turn on your light and light others light. You are the one we have been waiting for. Move past your fear and allow your potential to find expression.
