BE DILIGENT!

Do you see someone skilled in their work? They will serve before kings; they will not serve before officials of low rank. (Proverbs 22:29).  I was opportune to be in devotion last week under the tutelage of my mother-in-love when this subject was discussed.  Diligence is an important aspect of personal as well as professional life. It helps in achieving goals and leaves an impressive impression on others.

To stay at the top, the skills that took you there won’t be the same skills that keep you there and to build the required skills that even take you to the top will require you to be diligent. According to the Oxford Universal Dictionary, diligence is “careful attention, industry, assiduity; unremitting application, persistent endeavour.”  There is a lot in the definition of diligence, yet to some people, it all simply means hard work. Without a doubt, hard work is a part, but there is more we should understand. A thread of responsibility appears in the word which shows the place for personal discipline in your quest for diligence.

The habit of being persistent and making hard-working effort in your work or duties may be a painful activity, but, undergoing the process brings you impressive achievements and a sense of fulfilment eventually.  Whatever it may be, a field of knowledge, interest or activity, if you make persistent efforts with hard work toward the accomplishment of your goals, they are not to be futile at all.  Be patient and trust the process. Sometimes it would seem you are taking four steps backwards each time you take two steps forward.

Diligence is needed in all spheres of life as it is one of the key ingredients for success. Those who use the sheer power of diligence, succeed in their goals surely. Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might” (that is, whatever you do, do it to the best of your ability).  No matter how little a responsibility you are given, do it well because if you are not serious with the little no one will commit more into your care.  Diligent people will expend tremendous effort to accomplish their goals. Too many people want to put out minimum effort for maximum pay. Don’t be one of such people.

Working hard does not mean working round the clock without rest but working in a persistent and efficient way without wasting time.  Don’t wait for luck start your diligence process today and soon your persistence will bring you before kings.
