IT’S OK TO BE AFRAID BUT…

I was recently reading through a newsletter called the Vulnerable that inspired this article. Ope Awoyemi was talking about fear and uncertainty being ok.  To be honest with you, I am afraid sometimes if people will love the content I produce weekly but I still write anyway.

I fear not knowing the outcome of this journey I am embarking on to build the African continent but fear can’t stop me. The problem is not fear itself but allowing fear to stop you from believing and taking action.  The first time I started a business was right off high school in 2007, doing info marketing. I was afraid if, the business will be a huge success. I started off with 200 naira printing A4 posters that said something like “do you want to change your life, do you want to earn more, tap into a wealth of resources to help you unlock another level of success by paying 1500 naira into an account number I placed  in the advert.” With 200 nairas, I was able to make some good return. Imagine I had allowed the fear of not knowing the outcome, keep me from starting. I picked valuable lessons from that venture and went on to apply in other businesses.

It’s quite sad that fear is currently causing xenophobic attack upon fellow humans in South Africa. We must never allow fear to push us to do evil rather, let’s allow fear to push us to become more mindful of our actions. Let love motivate you and not fear. I don’t know what you are currently afraid of that is keeping you from starting your next venture or allowing yourself love but one thing I know from experience is that fear will only shorten the time for you to enjoy the fruits of your labour.  It is ok to be afraid. However, do not allow the fear of today to be a cause for regret tomorrow.
