Despise not the days of little beginnings.
As a young child growing up, I did not fully grasp the principles of the seed. I thought that by wanting a thing, I should get it there and then.it reminds me of the story of a child who saw his dad planting apples and started crying that he wanted to eat of the seed that very moment. The father had to then sit and explain the germination process to him. My son, the apple you see today was once like the seeds I just planted. They come in different shapes and sizes. In general, there are five basic physical conditions that all seeds need to germinate—light, water, soil, time and temperature.
It took me a while to appreciate the place of the seed in the process of becoming a tree. Every organization and dream that has materialized today was once a seed. At some point when understanding dawned on me, I started questioning myself and wondering where I would be if I had planted some seeds 5 years prior.
At that point, it was quite easy to fall into the trap of regret but I was encouraged by the Chinese proverb that says “The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.” I started taking little steps towards growing my seeds by attitude and habits.
Key lessons the seed has taught me. Seeds rot and die first before springing forth and that thought me the need to kill my old self and be rebirthed with a new mind-set.
Seeds grow downwards first before the come up and that thought me the need for building a strong foundation rooted in principles and values. These little changes over the years have gradually and continue to nourish the tree I can be.
You plant an apple seed and know it will produce an apple tree but how many apples it will produce in its lifetime you do not know. The same way the seed you plant today will become a tree tomorrow but how big it will become you can only imagine but not with 100 per cent certainty. Be consistent with nurturing your seeds today (ideas, dreams, positive and uplifting habits etc) by watering them, exposing them to the right amount of light, plant in the right soil and under good temperature. Weed out weeds from time to time and do not despise the seed. You know what kind of tree you want to be but you only become that tree by planting the right seeds (small) today.
